5 Mexico Travel Tips When COVID-19 Is On Your Mind!

5 Mexico Travel Tips When COVID-19 is on your mind!

The world that has been put to halt by the COVID-19 pandemic is now approaching the “new normal.” Places and businesses are opening up only to get shut down again, and people are adapting through resiliency. One of the significant global activities that have been gravely affected by Covid-19 and now slowly increasing is traveling to Mexico. Though there are still some restrictions, traveling from the U.S. to Mexico via commercial plane is permitted. If you have a scheduled trip to Mexico and have Covid-19 on your mind, here are some Mexico Travel tips for you to consider.

Check your government’s travel advice.

The first tip is to monitor travel advisories from your home state and check the government’s website. This is important to understand if there are any travel restrictions that you should be aware of. Each state has different requirements for permission to leave or arrive. Some states don’t have travel restrictions, but others may require a 14-day quarantine and negative swab test before freely moving around. Stay regularly updated before and after your scheduled trip in case of changes in your state’s rules and conditions on traveling.

Check your destination’s travel advice.

Next, check the alert level of your destination. Mexico’s approach towards a “new normal” is a four-stage plan based on a traffic light system as follows:

Red (ALERTA MAXIMA) – State is basically in lockdown wherein only essential movements are allowed. Restrictions for high-risk individuals are in place.
Orange (ALERTA ALTA) – Essential and non-essential activities are allowed, but limitations and strict safety protocols are implemented. There are some restrictions on high-risk individuals.
Yellow (ALERTA MEDIA) – All economic and labor activities are allowed given that safety protocols are followed. Restrictions for high-risk individuals determined by their respective companies remain.
Green (ALERTA BAJA) – All activities are allowed without any restrictions, including high-risk individuals.

For my valued clients that speak Spanish and interested in the most up to date information on Coronavirus in Mexico, you can visit Gobierno de Mexico website.

Get in touch with your designated airline for the latest flight regulations.

After checking the travel restrictions and regulations on where you are coming from and where you are headed to, next is the middle point – the airline. Be sure to contact your airline on what to expect before, during, and after your flight.

Are you healthy & fit to travel internationally?

Most importantly, are you healthy and fit to travel to Mexico? With the pandemic as a significant global threat, this is a time that we should not leave our home without a secure sense of our health status. Traveling internationally does come with increased risk due to the length in flight time, exposure to larger than normal groups when trekking through security lines and terminals.

If you are a high-risk individual, it is recommended that you first schedule a doctor’s visit to confirm you are fit to travel internationally. A high-risk individual can be considered a person who has a chronic disease, any type of respiratory condition, pregnant women, and those youngsters over the age of 60. Respectfully, if your doctor has cleared your health status and you are ready to feel Mexico’s warm sun and the sand between your toes, then it is time to consider the next very important tip.
